About Lisa

I’m a graduate student at Northwestern University’s Medill School of Journalism with an undying passion for writing and storytelling.

I made my way to Medill after working as the Downtown/Paradise reporter for View Newspapers under the Las Vegas Review-Journal. I graduated from Texas State University in May 2011 where I wass the University Star’s sports editor for four years. My proudest accomplishment as sports editor was breaking the story on Texas State’s move to the Football Bowl Subdivision and its invitation to the Western Athletic Conference — arguably the biggest news in Texas State Athletics history and a story I have followed since my first semester on staff (see story here).

I worked for publications outside of the Star, covering high school sports for various local papers. I was an intern on the Metro desk at the San Antonio Express-News in Summer 2010 and on the business desk at the Austin American-Statesman during the Spring 2011 semester. Before spending Summer 2011 in New York interning for hyperlocal-based startup NearSay.com, and freelancing for Business News Daily, I was selected as one of 22 students to participate in a two-week Poynter Fellowship for College Journalists in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Here you’ll find my personal blog and links to my work. I invite you also to view my résumé, send me an  email at lisakcarter11@gmail.com and check out my sports blog.
